Description

Job Summary: FT M-F 2nd shift 2:30 p-11 p, No Weekends, No Call
Dispense medications tohospitalized patients. Dispenses IV fluids with additives to inpatients. Supervises technical personnel in the dispensing functions. Serves as a clinical resource to the medical and hospital staff regarding drugs.

Job Relationships:
Responsible to: Director of Pharmacy
Positions directly supervised: Pharmacy Technicians

Essential Job Functions:
Dispenses medications ordered by physicians. Compounds and prepares ordered pharmaceutical preparations. Contacts and confers with physicians if there are any questions or irregularities regarding medication orders. Mixes irrigating solutions, IV additive solutions, and TAN solutions as required using aseptic technique with a laminar air-flow hood. Maintains patient profiles on pharmacy computer system. Fills and checks medication carts when required. Completes and revises patient charges.

Supervises in maintaining appropriate inventory levels. Consults with physicians and nursing staff concerning availability, form, side effects, and incompatibilities of currently available drugs. Maintains inventory and records of controlled drugs. Participates in quality improvement and drug usage evaluation activities. Assists in Patient Chargeable Equipment managing, including distribution and charging. Demonstrates ability to identify and address the needs of different patient age groups and the ability to effectively communicate with these patients.

Qualifications

Education and formal training:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy with current license in North Carolina.

Work Experience:
Prefer 2 years hospital experience and retail pharmacy experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
Must have computer skills and guest relations skills.

Physical Requirements:
Stands and walks majority of shift. Good eye/hand coordination. Lifting up to 30 lbs. and stretching. Frequent stressful situations.
